Russia
The 6 reasons to go to Russia!
You have so many things to discover during your trip to Russia! In addition to admiring its landscapes and its architecture, typically Russian, I recommend you go to meet its inhabitants and discover their customs so that your trip is a completely unique and authentic experience.
Visit the impressive Orthodox churches
What would Russia be without those colorful churches with huge domes? These magnificent and imposing religious buildings will not leave you indifferent. The churches are of Byzantine architecture and their exteriors have facades sometimes colorful and with a somewhat kitsch style and other times with more refined lines. All are topped with golden domes. In comparison, the interiors are somewhat more austere and are characterized by the large number of icons they house. When mass is celebrated, believers can stay there for hours.
Travel on the Trans-Siberian
The quintessential Russian train. It is also one of the main attractions in the country. For several days, you find yourself immersed in a kind of community life. Or you love it, or hate it. It is true that you have to live with other people (and with their bad smells, since there are no showers on the train), but you also meet a lot of interesting people. To pass the time you can have a drink with the rest of the travelers, go to the samovar to drink tea or contemplate the vast desert lands of the country. A great experience full of great encounters
! Contemplate the beauty of the landscapes in winter
Russia would not be the same without the cold so if you want to discover all the facets of the country, you have to experience this too. Temperatures usually reach -30 ºC (sometimes even less) and although it may seem difficult to walk under these conditions, the landscapes will captivate you. Contemplating the ice floes on Lake Baikal, skating on the rivers, walking among frosty trees, watching the children eat ice cream (Russians really like ice cream, even in winter) ... you will fall asleep before all the wonders that the great Russian cold has in store for you.
Enjoy Russian cuisine
Although Russian cuisine is little known, it has a lot to offer. Between the delicious winter and summer soups (borshch, okroshka, schi), shashliki (marinated meat skewers), draniki (potato crepes) with cream and piroshki you will be more than satisfied. Meals are usually accompanied with tea. In summer it is best to drink kvass, a refreshing drink made from sourdough bread. It costs less than a bottle of water and is sold in yellow tanks found throughout the city.
Go to a dacha
Many Russians have a dacha (country house). These rustic and cozy places usually have a bania (Russian sauna). During a night with friends, the typical thing is to have a few drinks at the nearest bar and then go to the sauna. In winter, after spending a few minutes at a temperature of 60 ºC, you can throw yourself in the snow (-30 ºC) and return to the bania to warm up again. To further relax the body, I advise you to massage yourself with some birch branches. It is a very calming experience. You can also go in the summer and grill some shashliki (skewers).
Meet the Russians
Once you have overcome the language barrier and the initial fear, you will discover that Russians are very funny people. It is true that the Russians seem like a cold people; Here you don't say good morning when you go to buy bread, nor do you say hello with two kisses. Relationships lack all those displays of affection that we cherish so much. However, it would be a shame to be left alone with that impression since once you establish contact with them you realize that in Russia there is no individualism as such. It is undoubtedly the inheritance of a harsh past in which it was essential to help each other. Also, Russians are very Hispanic and will always be willing to help you out if you have a problem.
When to travel to Russia?
Russia is known for its icy cold, but the country hides so much charm under the snow that it is worth a bit of cold! Summer and autumn offer a favorable climate for outdoor sports and relaxation in the south of the country. Avoid spring, the thaw leaves the country sunk in the neighborhood for two months. You have to go to Russia during a national holiday!
