The 6 reasons to go to Italy!
For centuries, millions of travelers have visited Italy to discover the pleasures of life: the country combines culture, nature and gastronomic pleasures. If you want to visit the classical world, discover numerous monuments declared World Heritage by UNESCO and change your perspective: you must travel to Italy.
Visit the Italian cultural heritage
Italy has a great historical heritage built over the centuries: the Greeks of Sicily, the Etruscans of Tuscany, the Romans of Latium (Lazio), the Byzantines of Palermo, the Normans of southern Italy, the artists of the Renaissance , the baroque palaces ... and even contemporary architecture. The country mainly attracts lovers of cultural tourism. Florence is a good example of this. Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, is full of wonders to visit: Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's bell tower, Pallazo Vecchio, the Uffizi gallery and the Ponte Vecchio are some of the most outstanding.
Discover Rome
Rome, the eternal city, is a must in any stay in Italy. Rome has three facets: the ancient Rome of the emperors; the Rome of the popes, the capital of the Catholic world with the Vatican City; and modern Rome, which with a multiple identity is one of the great metropolises of Europe. If you want to admire the artistic heritage of Rome, visit the Colosseum, the Forum, Michelangelo's Pieta, St. Peter's Basilica and the Trevi Fountain: an unforgettable Italian excursion!
Admire the Italian lakes
In Lombardy, between the Alps and the Po basin, there are the Italian lakes: Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Lake Garda (the largest) and the lakes of Orta, Lugano and Iseo (the More smalls). Each lake is unique and has its own characteristics: an alpine jewel with sapphire-colored waters (Lake Maggiore), a pearl with vegetation with a Mediterranean and temperate climate (Lake Como), a paradise for lovers of water sports (Lake Garda) , a destination conducive to a romantic getaway (Lake Orta) and wonderful views of a mountainous landscape and Monte Isola Island (Lakes of Lugano and Iseo).
Tour the Tuscan fields
Tuscany represents in itself the great diversity of landscapes in Italy. Although the region is known for the Apennine mountains and its coastline, the Tuscan countryside stands out above all. The tranquility of its landscapes harmoniously combines the wildest nature with cultivated fields. High hills, terrace vineyards, green olive groves and slender cypress trees can be seen everywhere. The Elsa Valley is a famous example of this, with the forests of Colle di Val d’Elsa, the hilltop villages such as Monteriggioni, and the vineyards and olive groves of San Gimignano.
Relax with a swim in the sea
The Italian coastline, which has several hundred kilometers of coastline, is marvelous for its variety and beauty: large rocky and rugged beaches (Campania), wild dunes and the pine forests of the Maremma (Tuscany), majestic headlands on fine sandy beaches bathed by turquoise waters (Apulia), unspoilt and captivating islands (Capri) and intimate coves with crystal clear waters (Calabria).
Gastronomic delights
A stay in Italy is synonymous with gastronomy. Each region is proud to have its own specialty: gorgonzola polenta in Lombardy, pasta e fagioli (pasta and beans) in Veneto, bistecca alla fiorentina in Tuscany, truffle pasta in Umbria, parmesan tortellini in Emilia- Romagna, porchetta (barbecued pork) in Lazio, pizza in Campania or prawn couscous in Sicily. Not forgetting its wines, among which is the famous Brunello. The table is a suitable place to meet the caring and hospitable locals. Italians will probably tell you about the family and the culinary recipes handed down from generation to generation.
When to travel to Italy?
If you want to visit southern Italy and the big cities, avoid the tourist crowds in August. For the north of the country, the ideal is to travel in winter if you want to ski and the rest of the year if you prefer to go on excursions and hiking.
